IYG’s Phat Jaco II echoes Jaco Pastorious’ classic Bass of Doom with a modern twist!
We’ve already addressed the coolness of Jaco Pastorious. Phat Jaco II takes the fretless jazz bass design and incorporates a classic tortoise-shell pickguard and Masterbuilt Alnico V pickups with acrylic see-thru tops and embossed feather design. Now that’s funky! The neck has a similarly chunky, half-Jazz/half-P-Bass feel. |

A fretless thumper that echoes Jaco Pastorious’ classic Bass Of Doom, Phat Jaco II has a touch of modern growl! Phat Jaco II features a ’70s-era rosewood thumb rest. This is where a thumb rest belongs! Alnico V Masterbuilt pickups with see-thru acrylic tops and feather etching. That’s funky! Like Jaco, we pulled the frets and finished the fretless board ourselves. No epoxy here! Lemon oil and D’Addario Chromes. This is what happens when you put medium length strings on a long scale bass! Sounds fine, but … oops! PJ2 has a few holes small screw holes in the back that we filled. Oops, again!
